Yes, dimethicone is used in selected AlumierMD products as there is extensive scientific data to prove that it is safe to use on the skin. Dimethicone can be used to help prevent transepidermal water loss, calm irritation and discomfort, minimize redness, and reinforce hydration amongst the skin’s natural protective barrier. Due to the molecular weight of dimethicone, it does not have the ability to be systemically absorbed, and thus works superficially on the skin’s surface. Contrary to what many may believe, dimethicone is not in fact, an occlusive agent. Instead, like many silicones, it is actually breathable and non-comedogenic because of its long bond lengths and wide bond angles.
